background

The Hebrew Scouts of Israel (Tzofim) was the first Zionist Youth Movement that was established in Eretz Israel in 1919. It Drew values from the World Scout Organization that was established in the UK 10 years earlier and combined it with Zionist Values. As the largest Israeli Youth movement (to this day), Tzofim started sending Shlichim to Jewish Communities around the world and mostly to the US. In 1964 the delegation to summer camps in the USA started and soon after the Friendship Caravan program was created. Each summer tens of thousands of young Jews were engaged by young Israeli Tzofim touring their communities.

In the late 1970s the first Tzabar chapter was created to serve the Israeli Jewish community of Queens New York. In the following years over 20 Hebrew Speaking Chapters were established all over North America, creating the largest Network of Israelis living abroad. In 1990 the "Friends of Israel Scouts" organization was created to oversee the programs and Chapters of Tzofim Tzabar in North America.

In 1991 a group of 14 Tzofim Tzabar alumnae from Shevet Hamifratz in Palo Alto decided to fulfil the values they learned in the movement and make Aliya as a group and Join the IDF as lone soldiers.

Tzofim Tzabar Shlichim has created a special preparatory program before making Aliya and they moved to Kibbutz Hatzerim as a group and served in the IDF. They were the first Tzofim Garin Tzabar group. Over the years the number of groups increased and till this day over 5,500 young adults have made Aliya and served in various positions in the IDF.

In 2005 Tzofim Tzabar opened a new region in Western Europe, opening Tzofim Chapters in the UK and later on in the Netherlands, Portugal and Switzerland. In 2014 Australia region was created with Hebrew speaking chapters in Sydney and Malborne. Each region has created a special program for children of Israeli immigrants, including camps, seminars, Israel programs, Hagshama programs and prepared groups of Garin Tzabar from the different regions.

Why we wear

the Khaki uniforms?

The Khaki is the official uniform of the the Tzofim world wide movement.

The origin of the style and colour come from the founding father of the Scouts Robert Baden Powell and the British Army uniform in India at the beginning of the 20th century.

Our uniform include trousers and shirt, equal to all members, with different colour ties to indicate age or role in the movement. On the khaki we add different patches/ tags to mark educational milestones.

The khaki symbolises

Unity

we are all one wherever we are in the world

Uniqueness

we stand out from others in a crowd

Equality

we are all the same, no matter our gender, colour, religion, age

Outdoor

the khaki allows us to spend time in nature

The slogan of the Tzofim Movement worldwide calls upon the Tzofe, as a person, to be alert and ready to cope, in every matter and in every situation (for himself, his country, his fellow people, etc.) The movement's motto is also an acronym for various times of action:
